Jean Sage has been representing on-air talent for more than twenty years. Often asked how she got started as an agent, it was soap operas that started the journey. As a frustrated "extra" actress on the soaps and tired of the commercial cattle calls, her NY agent asked if she had any interest in becoming an agent. After a few years casting TV commercials and soap operas, she moved to International Management Group in New York whose broadcast division was looking to expand its commercial endorsement reach for its sports stars.
In seven years with IMG, Jean worked extensively with John Madden, Bob Costas, Billie Jean King, among many others, and had the great pleasure of working with the legendary Muhammad Ali. In 1984, she became one of the first female vice presidents of IMG. Her love of the news business resulted in IMG's expansion into representing news anchors, reporters and weather talent. She has negotiated hundreds of contracts with smaller market stations to network, syndication and cable operations.
In 1986, Jean moved to Los Angeles (to give her children the opportunity to commune with grass and trees rather than concrete) and to start her own business, Stonegate Associates. She has a strong sense of how she wants to represent talent. She believes that it's a collaborative effort by client and agent and that on-going communication is imperative to success. She has helped guide the careers of clients such as Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow.
In October 1996, Jean merged Stonegate Associates with Napoli Management Group.
